KINGDOM MOUNTAIN DULCIMERS is a friendly group of people who live in the northeast part of VERMONT and share a common love for the mountain dulcimer. Many enjoy playing this sweet Appalachian folk instrument, either on their own at home, with a few friends, or at KMD gatherings.
KMD Jam - Since 2012, folks have been getting together to share and play many types of songs: Appalachian, traditional, & fiddle tunes, Celtic & other multi-cultural tunes, waltzes, sing-a-long songs, etc. We play standard, baritone, bass, and banjo dulcimers, and at times may be joined by other instruments such as guitar, hammered dulcimer, or bowed psaltery. Currently, the KMD Jam meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month, 12:30 - 2:30 pm, usually at the St. Johnsbury Welcome Center (the old railroad station) and sometimes at the St. Johnsbury History and Heritage Center, 421 Summer Street, or the St. Johnsbury House, 1207 Main Street. For more information, contact Dianne Lavigne - [email protected] KMD Ensemble - Since 2018, interested players have been meeting to share and learn rounds, duets, and songs with harmonies and multiple-parts - a dulcimer “orchestra.” Currently, the KMD Ensemble meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, upstairs at the Cobleigh Library, 14 Depot Street in Lyndonville. For more information, contact Julie Sturm - [email protected] KMD Musical Events - Interested players plan and perform when requested by the community, sharing jam and ensemble songs and, at times, a brief history of the dulcimer. Many different KMD players have arranged presentations for Burklyn Arts fairs, senior centers throughout the Northeast Kingdom, Retired Teachers’ luncheons, the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, Cobleigh Library, East Burke Library, and Peacham Library. Contact any member of KMD Jam or Ensemble to arrange future presentations. 2023 - KMD Holiday Music Events ** Holiday Music of Peace and Joy: Peacham Senior Living Center Monday, November 20th, 1:30 pm The Pines, Lyndonville Wednesday, November 29th, 10:30 am Cobleigh Library, Lyndonville Wednesday, December 6th, 10:30 am St. Johnsbury Athenaeum (library) Wednesday Dec. 13th, 1 pm Riverside Life Enrichment Center 2194 East Burke Road, Lyndonville Wednesday, December 20th, (tentative date, time TBD) All of our music events are free. |
